Hi. I mostly like to write stories about daughters and their fathers, but I dabble in other things too. My favorite things include incestual yearning, emotional power dynamics, violence against tomboys, and TRUE LOVE...
I’m inspired by Souvankham Thammavongsa's simple but powerfully emotive prose, Haruko Ichikawa’s delicate and quiet storytelling, Porpentine’s ability to connect one’s fears and desires, and, oh, also the violent BL I consumed as an unmonitored child on the internet.
I can be a bit of a romantic, though it's all in the wrong ways, so it can be difficult to find stories that cater to my specific needs. Though it's fine, because that's why I write them, since writing is all about finding fascination in something that won't let your brain go and then wringing it with your hands until you’ve finally made sense of it. My something is the juxtaposition of tenderness and violence -- how two opposites try to escape but also find each other, always at odds with the pain of each other’s existence, but ultimately tangling into a single entity. I write to better understand the fear of love because it always comes at the price of violence, and I write to express the desire for violence because sometimes love can only be felt through pain.
Non-poetic translation: Who needs therapy when you can write incest!
On another note, a lesser yet still important reason for why I write is because I'm both a chink and a jungle asian, and racial stories created in the Western world are often highly sanitized and made easily consumable for white eyes. While I know there's a reason behind media like this, I personally refuse to write things stripped of the quieter experiences found between the overlaps of race, trauma, and secret feelings. The second-generation immigrant experience is important to me. Please keep in mind that my slop can be enjoyed by anyone, but there may be things that some people don't understand and are invisible to them, and that's okay.
Anyway, thank you for reading and looking at my stuff. I hope it can make your heart feel a little funny. Or make it cry... or throw up... or smile! :)
